Max was diagnosed with duchenne muscular dystrophy on October the 31st 2002.
I can honestly say at that point it felt the world had ended you do the usual things blame your self what if ect but as you probably realise there is nothing you can do to change this.
This diagnose of dmd actually was the major factor of my divorce we were told at the hospital that this would either bring us closer together or separate .At the end of November 2002 we saw a specialist in genetics to test my x-wife for the genetic fault.

Below is how it is inherited.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is caused by an X-linked gene (that is, the gene is on the X chromosome; girls have two of these and boys only one). This means that only boys are affected but that their mothers may be carriers. Actually in almost half of all affected boys nowadays it turns out that the faulty gene has arisen by a change in the gene or ‘mutation’ in the boy himself and no other member of the family carries it. But this may be difficult to prove and can be decided only after careful and expert assessment of the family.
In just over half of all cases the mother carries the gene but is usually not herself affected by it.

Max was 3 on the 13th of April 04 at this present moment he is still unable to stand up on his own his main way of getting about is bum shuffling he is able to stand if placed in a standing position against a wall ect and is able to do a few side steps.
I have also just started a msn group for muscular dystrophy I only started this April 21st 2004 the idea of this group if for a chance for people with muscular dystrophy or friends of people with this condition to share there views and post questions on this site hopefully this will be a success there is also a chat room on there and a chance for you to post your pictures I have put the link for this below.
